Citizens of Titusville,

Today, as I look around our city the streets are mostly quiet. Our residents are heeding Governor DeSantis’ executive order to stay safer at home. Our playgrounds, schools and houses of worship are mostly empty. Many of our local businesses are closed. We are all waiting, hoping, and praying to reclaim our normal lives again.

I write you this third letter to tell you that even with our quiet streets, the spirit of our community has not been diminished by this health emergency. I see the heart and spirit of our community as our residents are ordering food and supplies from our local restaurants and small businesses. For those that have ventured out for those essentials, I see you following the guidance given by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help keep you and those around you safe. By doing these things you are clearly part of the solution.

The health and safety of our citizens remains the city’s top priority. During this health emergency, our first responders, city hall, public works, water resources, building departments have provided unwavering essential services to our city with very little disruptions to you. I ask you to offer a thumbs up or a wave of thanks the next time you see our essential city workers out on the front lines; especially our first responders who literally put their own health on the line for all of us.

As we prepare to begin the process of reopening our community, I ask you to continue to be patient and follow the guidance which will help speed in our recovery. It could take months before we can declare a victory over this disease. Just as you have done during the health emergency, I ask that during our recovery you continue to do what is right and continue to care for one another. I take great comfort in knowing that we’ll get through this together and when we do our community will be stronger and even more resilient.

I know we are all anxious to put this health emergency behind us and return to our normal lives. When we do get back to normal I know we will we see our local businesses busy with customers, our children back in school, our beautiful beaches, playgrounds and recreational facilities reopen, and neighbors sharing and caring for one another. It is these times like these that I am so thankful to live right here in Titusville.
