An Open Letter From Mayor Walt Johnson to the Citizens of Titusville

Citizens of Titusville,

I want to take the time to provide you information about COVID-19 and what our City, State and Federal governments are doing to help prevent the spread of the disease. Our normal lives are experiencing some disruptions in the near term, we recognize this and understand the potential for the disruption for the long term.

The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, President Trump declared coronavirus a national emergency, and Brevard County declared a local State of Emergency this past week.

As of Tuesday, March 17th the Florida Department of Health had confirmed 173 cases of coronavirus, including 1 confirmed case in Brevard County. The arrival of coronavirus in Brevard should not be a surprise to us. Now that the virus is here in our County, we in Titusville must all act now to help aid in the spread and eventual eradication of this
virus.

This Brevard County State of Emergency provides the county and local governments, including the City of Titusville, additional resources such as protective equipment for our first responders, to tap into federal and state financial reserves to deal with potential emergencies, and to seek federal reimbursement for consequence management actions.

Brevard County Emergency Management Center continues to work closely with the City of Titusville, state and federal health officials to monitor the spread of the disease and provide information to us to help aid in the eradication of this virus.

The City of Titusville is disseminating information to you through various methods such as our city website, social media, and press releases. For up-to-date information, you may call 2-1-1 daily between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Additionally, you can call the Florida Department of Health call center at 866-779-6121 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The messages from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and Florida Health Department is to wash our hands often and thoroughly, using soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or baby wipes. Practice social distancing by keeping six feet between yourself and others and avoid gatherings of 10 or more people. Self-isolate if you are sick and call your physician, local hospital, or urgent care clinic for screening to determine whether you should be seen by medical personnel.

The Citizens of Titusville have always risen to face challenges. Let’s all do our part Titusville! I know we will all pull together to keep the citizens of Titusville safe as we do our part to wipe out the coronavirus.
